Wildlife Photography

There is something very special about a photographer who comes back. Not once. Not twice. But four times.
Kim arrived with his cameras ready and a clear goal in mind: the woodpeckers of Estonia’s southern forests. But, as wildlife photography so often teaches us, you can make a plan… and the wildlife can make a completely different one.

Inside the hide, patience is everything. The cameras are ready. The light begins to change. The forest slowly wakes.
Then, perhaps, a flash of colour through the trees – and a woodpecker lands.
For a few precious seconds, everything comes together: the bird, the light, the background and the photographer’s timing. These are the moments Kim had returned for.
Estonia is one of the best places in Europe to photograph woodpeckers. Its vast forests and low levels of disturbance support a remarkable range of species. Our woodpecker window overlooks dedicated feeding stations, and specialist photographic glass means the birds never know you are there.
A first for the main hide
Somewhere along the way, Kim’s woodpecker mission turned into another extraordinary chapter for his wildlife portfolio: the European brown bear.
One day, a European brown bear stepped out of the forest in front of our main hide – the first bear ever to visit it. Kim was there with his cameras ready, and came away with a stunning collection of brown bear photographs he could never have planned when he first arrived.
That bear has since become a regular visitor. Suddenly, the anticipation of what might appear next is even greater – and photographers at Wildlife Dreams now have the chance to photograph woodpeckers and brown bears from the very same hide complex.

You wait. You watch. You listen.
Hide photography rewards the photographer who stays. The light shifts through the day, species come and go, and behaviour you would never see on a brief visit begins to unfold in front of you. The longer you sit quietly, the more the forest reveals.
It helps that our main hide is five hides in one. Guests are free to move between them throughout their stay – from the woodpecker window to the bear hide to the dedicated kingfisher pond – following the action for a variety of wildlife and angles in a single visit.
And sometimes, wildlife gives you something completely unexpected.
Kim’s four visits to Wildlife Dreams have become a photographic journey in their own right. Each one has brought new opportunities and new images for his portfolio.
And that is exactly why we created Wildlife Dreams. Not simply to take photographers to wildlife, but to give them the chance to slow down, settle into the hide and really photograph it. To look for the perfect moment. To return in another season and try again. And perhaps to come away with an image – or an encounter – that wasn’t even on the original list.
Every visit supports the wildlife
We are incredibly proud that Kim chose to return to Wildlife Dreams for a fourth time. His latest journey took him from the intimate world of Estonia’s woodpeckers to the powerful presence of the European brown bear.
Two very different photographic experiences. One unforgettable journey.
Perhaps that is the greatest thing about wildlife photography. You never really know what is going to walk, fly or appear in front of your lens next.
At Wildlife Dreams, we believe the best wildlife photography isn’t rushed. You need time. You need patience. You need opportunity.
And sometimes… you just need to be in the hide when wildlife decides to appear.
Experience. Capture. Conserve.
